A
home made healthy sweet from Greece
Ingredients
- 1 kilo of strawberries
- ½ a cup of lemon juice
- 1 kilo sugar
- 2 cups of water
Wash the
strawberries and carefully remove the green leaves without destroying their
shape. Put the strawberries in a bowl and spray them with lemon juice. Let them
stay in the bowl for 2-3 hours. Put the sugar and the water in a pot and mix
them until the sugar melts. Boil the syrup for five minutes without mixing it.
Drain the strawberries and put them in the syrup. Boil them for five minutes
removing the bubbles with a spoon. Take the strawberries out of the syrup and
put them in a strainer. Boil the syrup alone until it thickens. Put the
strawberries back in the syrup and boil them for five more minutes. Remove the
pot from the fire and shake it a lot of times so as to cool the sweet. Put the
sweet in a jar.

Kebabs are everywhere in Turkey and come in a wide variety of types. The cheapest and most commonly found kebab is the doner kebab which is made from paper thin slices of roasted lamb, beef or chicken and served in bread with salad and pickles. Adana and Urfa kebabs are long meatball-like strips which are skewered and cooked over a coal grill. Both are made with minced meat, but while the Urfa kebab is made with onion, the Adana kebab makes more liberal use of garlic and hot spices.
Sis kebab is a term for diced, marinated meat such as lamb, chicken or beef which is cooked over a coal grill, while Iskender kebab, which hails from the city of Bursa, consists of doner meat laid over cubed bread pieces and topped with melted butter and a garlic-tomato sauce and yoghurt.
